It is a tool developed by the partnership between SIA – Agribusiness Intelligence Service – and Agrocarbono, with the aim of estimating the emission of greenhouse gases (GHG) and also the addition of carbon in the soil based on average data from rural properties and using specific international methodologies, aligned with the reality of national agriculture. The tool is divided into types of livestock activities, and the source of emissions considered by each of them are:
Emissions from enteric fermentation of animals;
Emissions from manure deposited on pasture;
Emissions and removals due to changes in land use;
Emissions from use of inputs;
Emissions from burning fossil fuels;
Emissions from burning/use of electrical energy;
In addition to how much a property can mitigate or emit methane, the tool is capable of reporting in carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2 eq), how much C is being added to the soil or emitted into the atmosphere and the carbon balance. This way we are able to show producers the impact of changing the production system on the property’s carbon balance.
