Zootechnical indices support us in understanding production, reproductive and health efficiency, and can more assertively assist in adjustments in the management and control of livestock activity. In this week’s text, we will talk about production rates. Understand the importance of each one and how to calculate it, and use this as a parameter to analyze reproduction and application in property management.

Check the indexes:

Mortalities

CALF MORTALITY: Measures animal deaths from birth to weaning in %

How to calculate = Number of calves killed until weaning/Number of calves born x 100

MORTALITY IN YOUNG ANIMALS: Measures the number of deaths of animals from weaning to 2 years in %

How to calculate = Number of young animals killed

Number of young animals x 100

MORTALITY IN ADULT ANIMALS: Measures the % of animal deaths

over 2 years.

How to calculate = Number of adult animals killed/Number of adult animals x 100

Slaughter Rate: Measures the percentage of animals slaughtered within the period

determined (harvest).

how to calculate = Animals slaughtered/Total herd (initial) x 100

Enjoyment Rate: Important indicator as it refers to the herd’s capacity to generate surplus, representing the herd’s production.

How to calculate = Ending Stock – Opening Stock – Purchases + Sales/

Initial stock x 100

Average Annual Stocking: Measures the animal load in AU (animal unit = 450 kg BW) or heads that remained on the farm per hectare during the year.

How to calculate = Average Herd Number (UA or CAB equiv.) / Useful area

Productivity /ha: This is the main indicator of a farm. Measures production in kg of carcass per unit area.

How to calculate = Ending Stock – Opening Stock – Purchases + Sales/Useful area

The result can be calculated in kg of PV or converted to arroba.

GMD Global: informs the average annual daily gain in kg of the farm for the entire herd.

How to calculate = final herd weight – initial herd weight / 365
